In 1982, four people came together. They wanted to create a carnival in Aalborg –
in the capital of North Jutland. A year later, in 1983, the very first
carnival was held in Aalborg with around 5-10,000 active participants. Since then, this annual event has grown and today, about 100,000 people come together to enjoy samba rhythms
and amazing costumes in the largest carnival in Northern Europe -
the Carnival in Aalborg!

Carnival in Aalborg is for everyone - a circumstance that differentiates Carnival in Aalborg from other large carnivals, which normally are exclusive for professional participants. Carnival in Aalborg challenges everyone to act on his or her instincts and create their own costume. Carnival in Aalborg is a celebration of life
and only the fantasy sets the limits for the costumes, which results in a unique and a popular carnival.
Carnival in Aalborg is a popular event that provides both participants
and spectators exotic and extravagant experiences. At the carnival
in Aalborg both participants and spectators can experience carnival traditions from all over the world, when
international carnival groups from a parts of the world come to Aalborg and set their mark on the parade. These carnival groups enhance the experience of being at the carnival
when amazing costumes, feathers, drums and exotic rhythms create a real carnival atmosphere.
A week of
Carnival
Carnival in Aalborg stands for a whole week and reaches its climax on Saturday the 23rd of May with the Grand Parade and the following party in the city park. Also,
the city park, Kildeparken,
is the centre of activities and entertainment all three days of the
carnival.
The Children’s Carnival the 24rd of May 2010: A parade through the city centre followed by entertainments and games in Kildeparken.
Battle of Carnival Bands the 28rd of May 2010: An international carnival show with exotic and beautiful costumes and dance. Carnival groups from all over the world do their best to win the title “The Best Carnival Group 2009”.
Carnival Party the 29rd of May 2010: Festivities all day long. The participants march through the streets to the city park, Kildeparken, where about
25,000 participants party on and dance to the music coming from four stages.
