Step 1:
Use the steel wire for the basic shape. Make a model fitted to the head
size and also shape a figure for decoration of the top of the headgear.
The ends of the steel wire can either be solder or fastened with tape.
Step 2:
Wrap the selvage ribbon around the steel wire skeleton. Be careful that
there are no large bulges around the ends.
Step 3:
If you wish to cover an area on the head with fabric and e.g. sequins,
the fabric should be tied to the upholstered skeleton. A durable end is
obtained by either tacking the fabric on to the upholstery or by using
the hot glue gun.
Step 4:
If you wish to cover surfaces on the figure placed on the top of the
head, the figure should be drawn on a piece of cardboard. The figure
should be enlarged by approx. 5mm all the way around. The cardboard can
either be painted or covered with fabric. The cardboard piece is glued
on the front side of the skeleton.
Step 5:
Sequins and various decorative objects are sown on to the headgear. The
sequins can be glued on to the cardboard piece.
Step 6:
Use the hot glue gun for gluing feathers (5-10 items – or as many you
like) on to the backside of the figure/cardboard piece. In order to
cover the back of the feathers, copy the cardboard figure and put it on
to the backside of the feathers to cover the ends and blobs of glue. If
the headgear really is to take up room, use approx. 200 cock feathers
and cut another figure out of the foam underlay and place it on the
backside of the figure already glued on. After this, it is possible to
stick the feathers directly into the underlay with a small blob of glue.
