1. Where can I buy tickets for the carnival in Aalborg?

It is possible to buy your ticket for this years Garden Party in advance - either online or in selected stores in Aalborg. Tickets for the other events (Children's Carnival and Battle of Carnival Bands) are sold at the entrance to Kildeparken, where you also can buy you ticket on Saturday at the Garden Party. 2.When does the carnival start and end?
The Carnival in Aalborg happens every year in week 2, with the culmination of the Garden Party the following Saturday. View the program for the entire carnival week here.


3. How do I join the carnival, and the Grand Parade?

To participate in the public part of the carnival, the Grand Parade, all you have to do is show up at one of the starting points of the parade - view the starting points and times here. There is also an organized part of the Grand Parade, which requires that you are a part of an larger group, and registered at the Secretariat of Carnival in Aalborg. 4. How much does it cost to join the carnival?

It is free to join the Grand Parade, and of course to be a spectator along the routes. However, to join the Garden Party and the other events in Kildenparken, you need to pay admission. Tickets for the Garden Party is available in advance sale, where admission to the other events are payed at the entrance. Prices and places of purchase can be found here


5. What are the routes for teh Grand Parade on Saturday?
The routes vary depending on the starting point. View a detailed map of the routes here

6. Why has the routes been changed?
Since there are more participants in the carnival each year, the street of Aalborg have become too small, why the routes have been change. These changes have been made to optimize the funcitionality of the rest of Aalborg during the Grand Parade. Also, Vesterbro is a broader street than Boulevarden, and therefore able to hold more carnivalists during the Grand Parade.

7. How long is the Grand Parade?
We strive to execute the Grand Parade in approx. 4 hours, but there might be several hours difference between the first and the last part of the parade to get to Kildeparken. Therefore, if you wish to be part of the parade for a longer time, you should stay in the back of parade at the given starting point, and in the front if you wish to get to Kildeparken faster.


8. Are the limitations as to the costumes?

Only your imagination sets the limits of your costume. However, it is not allowed to show political or commercial marketing through banners etc. And of course, the general laws and regulations should be kept.


9. How old should I be to join the carnival?

There are no age limitations to the carnival in aalborg. However, we recommend that children under the age of 12 participate in the Children's Carnival or at the least that they are accompanied by adults. The Canival on Saturday is primarily a party for adults.

10. Why are shopping carts not permitted in the Grand Parade?
Shopping carts are not permitted in the Grand Parade or the carnival in general as they are owned by the stores, and therefore are considered stolen if taken from the stores.

11. Where do I find the best view of the Grand Parade?
As a spectator to the Battle of Carnival Bands Parade on Friday, May 27th, and the Grand Parade on Saturday, May 28th, the parade can be viewed from all along the routes. However, on Friday, the view will be best on Nytorv, Boulevarden and Vesterbro, and on Saturday, the Grand Parade walks down Vesterbro, where the best view is then found. There are always lots of spectators to the parades - therefore be in good time to get a great view, and be patient. We recommend that spectators deviate from the entrance area to Kildeparken.

12. Is it possible to cross the Grand Parade as a spectator?
As a new feature this year, it will be possible to cross the parade and the crosswalks at Borgergade, Bispensgade, Vingaardsgade, Hasserisgade and Frederikskildevej. The crosswalks will be opened and guarded every 15 minutes.

13. Why has the area across from Kildeparken become part of 'The Sexological Zoo' and the Garden Party?
Since the carnival in Aalborg becomes larger every year, and more people participate in the festivities, the area of the Garden Party has been expanded to include the wooded area across from Kildeparken and Vesterbro in the Sexzoological Zoo. This makes room for 5-7000 more carnivalists - in organized surroundings. The past couple of years, this area has had a huge influx of people - a development that threatens the very existence of Canival in Aalborg. Therefore we have included this area to keep it under control, since the authorities will not allow this event otherwise.

14. Where do I go if I do not wish to enter Kildeparken?
The entrance to the Garden Party/Kildeparken is located at Vesterbro by the European Hall at Aalborghallen. For those canivalist who do not wish to enter the Garden Party, exit area have been established by Prinsensgade and Hasserisgade. Also, there will be lounging-area on the parking lot behind Aalborghallen, where you will also find exits to Vesterbro. There is also established exits through the tunnel leading to the train station.

15.Can I bring my own food and drinks to the Garden Party in Kildeparken?

To the events 'Battle of Carnival Bands' and the Garden Party, you are not allowed to bring your own food or drinks, as a large part of the financing of the carnival in Aalborg comes from the selling of drinks and food inside Kildeparken. However, at the Children's Carnival, you are allowed to bring your own picnic

16. How much does drinks costs inside Kildeparken?
At the Garden Party in Kildeparken on May 28th 2011, following prices apply:
Beer: 30DKK.
Soda/water: 20DKK.
Other alcoholic drinks (Smirnoff Ice, Somersby, Cult): 45DKK.
Wine (bottle): 100DKK
Wine (glass): 25DKK.
Coffee: 10DKK
Hot chocolate: 10DDK
Certain bars will offer quantity discounts.

17. Are there cashdispensers inside Kildeparken - or can I pay by VISA?

There will be cash dispenser inside Kildeparken, and several of the bars accept payment by credit cards.

18. Are dogs allowed inside Kildeparken at the Garden Party?
Dogs are not allowed inside Kildeparken during the Garden Party, with the exception of guiding dogs.


19. How is the safety at the carnival in Aalborg?

In corporation with the Police Department, Emergency Organization Center, Red Cross and others, Carnival in Aalborg has composed a safety- aemergency alert plan. You can read more about the saety and guidelines here

20. Is Kildeparken passable for handicapped?
Handicap toilets are established inside Kildeparken. If you use a wheelchair or limited in other ways, the entrance at Ny Kærvej is the most suitable In dry weather, Kildeparken is accessible for wheelchairs, but in rain, the gravel paths around Kildeparken might be difficult to pass in a wheelchair.

21. Who is part of the carnival in Aalborg?

Everybody! The carnival in Aalborg is for everybody, and offers a wide variety of events and activities providing something for everybody. The participants vary depending on the event or activity: the Children's Carnival is mostly for families, where the Battle of Carnival Bands attracts a more adult audience. The Grand Parade and following Garden Party is mostly for adults and young adults.

22. Is it possible to park nearby?
Generally, parking in midtown is problematic on this Saturday of the Grand Parade - as well as it is problematic to both enter and exit midtown by car. We therefore recommend to use public transportation on this day if going to midtown of Aalborg. During thie other events of the carnival week, parking in and transportation to and from midtown will work as normal.

23. Who pays for the carnival?
The non-profit organization, Carnival in Aalborg, plans and execute this major public event (i.e. the Grand Parade, the Garden Party in Kildeparken, cleaning of the city etc.) These costs amount to approx. 6,000,000 DKK - and mainly financed by ticket sales, food and drinks sold in Kildeparken. Therefore, the carnival in Aalborg depends on that a sufficient number carnivalist join the Garden Party in Kildeparken, since this is the major inflow to financing the carnival - and the Grand Parade. The municipality of Aalborg grants 250,000DKK and the working forces of more than 2000 volunteers helps to execute this major event. The volunteers make approx. 750,000-1,000,000 DKK for their organizations - money that comes from the sales of drinks and food etc.

24. Can I become a volunteer at the Carnival in Aalborg?

25. What currencies are accepted in Kildeparken?

Only Danish Kroners (DKK) are accepted inside Kildeparken. However, it is possible to retrieve cash from the cash dispensers in Kildeparken, and several bars also accept credit cards.
