International Carnival Show
Friday, 25th of May 2007, 6pm - 10pm |
|
To enhance the diversity of the
many different carnival traditions, Carnival in Aalborg has chosen to invite
carnival groups from all over the world to participate in the Battle of
Carnival Bands.
The groups form a parade through the
centre of Aalborg whereas their performances are judged individually by
four independent parade judges. The parade proceeds to the city park,
Kildeparken, where each group is given 8-10 minutes to perform their show on
stage in front of the audience and four show judges. The grand finale
show, containing the top 5 groups from Friday's contest, takes place in
Kildeparken, on Saturday, after the Grand Parade.
After the first half of the carnival groups have performed on stage in
Kildeparken, the city key will be presented to this year’s Carnival Queen,
Jytte Abildstrøm. Flanked by Aalborg Cannon Association, Bramwell Flyckt,
the founder of Carnival in Aalborg, will give a tribute oration to the Carnival
Queen. Afterwards, Aalborg’s second vice-mayor, Niels Bell, will
present the queen with the city key. Aalborg Cannon Association ends the
ceremony with the firing of a salute.
The parade starts at 6pm from C.W.
Obels Plads in the centre of Aalborg and proceeds to the city
park, Kildeparken. The show in Kildeparken starts at about 7pm and continues
until 10pm.

Rio de Janeiro. The group consists of a large number of samba dancers

birds from the old Egypt. Also, as winners of the Battle of Carnival Bands
in Aalborg twice before, Unidos will bring their winner masks and use them
as part of their performance.

According to the myth, Dunkelfolket originates from the beautiful scenery
around Fosdalen in Northern Jutland where they emerge every spring as a sign
of happiness, life and death. The group performs wearing their
characteristic handmade wooden masks.
Dunkelfolket does not compete in the Battle of Carnival Bands contest in
Kildeparken, but forms part of the Battle of Carnival Bands parade. |
